Nintendo Switch 2 Adds USB Mouse Support in Launch Title “Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening CE”

Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 will welcome a new level of precision control right out of the box: regular USB mice. Koei Tecmo confirmed that its launch title, Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening CE, will seamlessly accept any standard USB pointing device—offering an alternative to the console’s built-in Joy-Con “mouse” feature.

According to developer Michi Ryu, connecting a USB mouse instantly switches input priority from Joy-Con to the mouse. “Once you plug in the USB mouse, a notification appears in the top left corner confirming the connection,” Ryu explained. “You can toggle back and forth between the controller and the mouse on the fly—it’s very smooth.”

This revelation raises questions about other mouse-friendly Switch 2 games, such as Civilization VII, another high-profile launch title.

While early hands-on impressions praised the Switch 2’s native Joy-Con pointer support, many players will no doubt appreciate the added flexibility and accuracy of a traditional mouse. Notably, the original Nintendo Switch also accepted USB mice for applications like Game Builder Garage, but support was limited. With the Switch 2, first-party and third-party titles alike appear poised to fully embrace both Joy-Con and USB mouse controls—making it easier than ever to navigate menus, command units, or edit builds with pixel-perfect precision.
